Inside Out - e-lessons

Every Monday Macmillan posts new e-lessons for its Inside Out course. You don't need to be using the course to use the lessons, which are available as PDF files or Word documents and ready to print. The lessons come with teacher's notes and a glossary. Very handy if you need a quick idea for a lesson.

English Language Gazette - International English Language Journal

EL Gazette ("the international newspaper for the ELT community") has a number of PDF files featuring teaching tips and lessons plans which can be downloaded for free. Here's what they say:

If you are looking for something to do in class tomorrow try our free instant ESL lesson plans. Each month we have a special downloadable resource page comprising a single instant lesson which you can just print out and use in class with second language learners, (don’t worry they are suitable for English as a Foreign Language and Tesol too!).

Specially written by experienced EFL teachers, each lesson plan is a full 60 minute lesson complete with ESL exercises, grammar points, discussion activities, reading texts, pictures – everything you need for your next ESL class. Many of the lesson plans are based on published materials produced by major English language teaching publishers - some from ELT coursebooks you may already be using. All you have to do is download the ESL lesson plan, photocopy and hand it out in class – completely free of charge.

Every month we offer a different instant lesson on a different topic ranging from exam practise for tests like Toefl, Toeic and Ielts to colour-in materials for kids at elementary level.

All the lesson plans are completely copyright free
– even those which incorporate copyright material from the major English language teaching publishers. So you can download as many as you like, use them as often as you like or even e-mail the ESL lesson plan to your friends.

Speech Accent Archive

The Speech Accent Archive presents a large set of speech samples from a variety of language backgrounds. Native and non-native speakers of English read the same paragraph and are carefully transcribed. The archive is useful for people who wish to compare and analyze the accents of different English speakers.

A great site for exposing learners to different accents. The phonetic transcriptions should be of interest to TEFL trainees (or teachers).

Grammar Bytes! Grammar Instruction with Attitude

On the site you'll find:

* detailed definitions of common grammar terms

* exercises to test your grammar knowledge

* teacher handouts that accompany the interactive exercises

* tips and rules

The site is well-designed with a nice chunky feel to it. Not all of the grammar exercises will be of interest to EFL learners (e.g. comma splices and fused sentences!) but there's plenty of useful material here for those who want to work on this area of their English.

WELCOME TO VOCABULARY.COM and a DAILY WORD PUZZLE - a free resource used in over 20,000 schools to enhance vocabulary mastery & written/verbal skills
